Past Simple vs Past Continuous

حدث اكتمل، وحدث كان جاريًا — ومتى يقاطع أحدهما الآخر.

Past Simple لحدث بدأ وانتهى في الماضي. وPast Continuous لحدث كان مستمرًا في لحظة ماضية.

Past Simple

S + V2 — I visited my uncle yesterday. والنفي: didn’t + V1.

Past Continuous

S + was/were + V-ing — I was studying at 8 p.m.

Signal words (Simple)

yesterday, last week, in 2019, two days ago.

Signal words (Continuous)

while, at that moment, at 7 o’clock, all evening.

عندما يقاطع حدث قصير حدثًا طويلًا: الطويل بالمستمر والقصير بالبسيط.

While I **was walking** home, it **started** to rain.
I **was cooking** when the phone **rang**.
القاعدة العملية: while يسبقها/يليها غالبًا المستمر، وwhen غالبًا البسيط.
